Buena Park, CA Real Estate

home buyersIn some respects, Buena Park is the OC’s fun zone. It’s home to the legendary Knott’s Berry Farm – the country’s first theme park, but it is also one of the most affordable areas of Orange County.

Buena Park’s location is ideal for commuters, especially those who don’t want to commute very far these days. It sits right at the junction of the 5 and 91 Freeways and Beach Blvd. or Highway 39 runs north and south through town. Initially, Buena Park was left out of the county’s commuter rail system, but a Metrolink stop has recently been established. Cal State University Fullerton is just 10 minutes away.

Walter and Cordelia Knott discovered Buena Park in 1920 when they moved to the area and started a farm. A few years later, Knott helped develop the boysenberry and his farm took off. The Knott’s built a small restaurant and Cordelia’s chicken recipe became famous. That and the fact that the farm bordered busy Highway 39 – then the main route from Los Angeles to the Orange County beaches -- and soon patrons were lined up around the block. Walter felt his customers needed something to do while they waited, so he bought and moved some old mining buildings from the ghost town of Calico, and Knots Berry Farm and Ghost Town was born – the beginnings of the nation’s first “theme park.”

Today, Knott's is still a major destination with thrill rides and a new water park surrounding the chicken restaurant and the ghost town exhibits. Travelling north on Beach Blvd., the city’s attraction zone has developed with dinner theatres such as Medieval Times and Pirates, and the Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum. Even with Disneyland and the Orange County beaches nearby, Buena Park has maintained its status as a tourist destination in its own right.

Buena Park real estate options in Buena Park consist of single-family detached homes, estate properties, condominiums, townhouses and land lots. The percentage of apartments to single family homes is higher than in most Orange County cities. The Buena Park school district has elementary and middle schools; the city is served by the Anaheim Union High School and Fullerton Joint Union High School districts.

Moving out of the somewhat congested area around Knotts, some of the most attractive residential developments in Orange County are in the vicinity of the Los Coyotes Country Club, in the north end of Buena Park. Los Coyotes is located in the hills above the city and view homes and estate homes are available here. The Country Club is developing a new tract, “The Villas” next to the course.
