It's understandable why locals think this special portion of the Orange County coastline is best kept unpublicized. Capistrano Beach is one of those great beaches that offers a friendly, small town atmosphere. Unlike the wide and sandy beaches to the north in Newport and Huntington Beach, this area's beaches are generally narrower stretches at the base of hills and cliffs.

Capistrano Beach is a part of the city of Dana Point. It is bordered by San Clemente to the south and Laguna Beach to the north and San Juan Capistrano to the east. Capistrano Beach is one of the few remaining "beach towns" in Orange County. It has avoided much of the commercialization of the surrounding areas, and remains a unique and charming place with a "small town" atmosphere.

Capo Beach, as it is sometimes referred to, is situated along the coast on the southern end of Dana Point. Homes range from beach cottages to some of the finest real estate in Orange County. Many multi-million dollar homes can be found in the area, with some situated atop a cliff overlooking Coast Highway and the beach park below. Many celebrities have homes on Beach Road, an exclusive guard gated community of beach frontage custom homes right on the sand. Plenty of private beach for volley ball, sailboats or watching the waves crash and the sunsets. On Beach Road you own the beach to the high tide line!

Not all Capistrano Beach real estate consists of luxury homes; there are many mid-priced condos, townhomes, apartment buildings, and single family homes. These more modest dwellings in Capo Beach are mostly older homes located off Camino Capistrano, a little farther from the shore.   Capo Beach is a good opportunity for real estate investors; while homes can be in the luxury price range, summer rentals on the beach command premium rates.

Capistrano Beach is easily accessible from Interstate 5 (Beach Cities exit) as well as Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1). Public Transit is nearby with Metrolink and Amtrak service to both San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente. Students in K-12 are served by schools within the Capistrano Unified School District.Capistrano Beach is served by the Capistrano Unified School District. High School Students attend Dana Point High.

Doheny State Beach is right next to Capistrano Beach and features 62 acres of sandy beach. The campground features 120 developed family campsites and reservations for space in the summer go very fast every year. A day-use county beach park is south of the state park.
