La Habra, CA Real Estate

home buyersThe hillside city of La Habra is in the far north portion of Orange County and borders Los Angeles County. La Habra is a patchwork of nice neighborhoods -- primarily single family homes, most of which are in the 40-50 year range for construction. (Its related city, La Habra Heights is located to the north of La Habra, and is in Los Angeles County.)

Primarily avocado, citrus and oil country, La Habra started to develop residentially in the 1950’s. While a bedroom community, La Habra is known as a warehousing district due to its proximity to the 5 freeway and its accessibility to Los Angeles County. Today, Standard Oil still owns wells in southern La Habra and the city's bedroom-community reputation established in the '50s and '60s remains.

A new development of about 90 single family homes at the site of a one-time cold storage facility dating from the county’s citrus boom years is underway. This new development is close by the city’s well-know Children’s Museum which is in the restored old Union Pacific Railroad depot, and next door, in the old Pacific Electric Railway station, is the Depot Theatre.

Another new development has been recently built at Idaho and Lambert Road. Other residential construction in recent years in La Habra includes the upscale development of Westridge, with most homes now selling in excess of one-million dollars. Westridge is south of Imperial Hwy. in the hills on the south side of the city overlooking the private Westridge Golf Club.

There is another new development, Tapestry, with most homes in the 3000 square foot range. La Habra Crest is another development of about 100 semi-custom homes. The city is working on plans to restrict traffic in some of the residential areas to better protect the small town feel of the area. The closest commuter train service is at the Buena Park Metrolink station; Amtrak service is available at Fullerton.

La Habra is served by three school districts the Lowell Joint Unified School District, Fullerton Joint Union High School District and La Habra City School District. There are 10 elementary schools, two middle schools, two public high schools and one private school. Sonora High School and La Habra High School have been named California Distinguished schools.
